📝 AI Literacy Evaluation Checklist for Assessment Tools

Purpose: A teacher-friendly checklist to ensure any assessment tool (rubric, reflection prompt, quiz, project, etc.) is aligned with AI literacy goals and ISTE Standards.

1. Alignment & Purpose

Does the assessment clearly align with the learning objective (AI concept or skill)?
Is the ISTE Standard identified and addressed?
Does the tool measure understanding, not just recall?

2. Fairness & Accessibility

Is the language age-appropriate and free of jargon?
Does it avoid bias or assumptions about student background/tech access?
Is the format accessible (readable fonts, screen-reader friendly, multiple modalities)?

3. Student Engagement

Does it allow students to demonstrate creativity or critical thinking?
Does it encourage student choice (different ways to show understanding)?
Is there an element of real-world relevance (examples, scenarios, or applications)?

4. AI-Specific Considerations

Does the tool check for understanding of AI concepts (not just tool use)?
Are students asked to reflect on human vs. AI roles in the task?
Does it encourage ethical thinking (bias, misinformation, responsible use)?

5. Evidence of Learning

Does the tool provide clear criteria for success (rubric, examples)?
Can it capture both knowledge and process (how students got their answer)?
Does it allow for formative feedback (students can revise and improve)?

6. Practicality for Teachers

Is it easy to implement within class time?
Does it avoid excessive grading burden?
Can results be used to guide next steps in instruction?

If most boxes are checked: the assessment tool is strong and ready.

⚠️ If several boxes are unchecked: consider revising for clarity, fairness, or alignment.
